Which door is yours
These are the Canada Council’s own Self-ID categories: tap a door to see who it covers.
How it works
Complete your Self-ID form
On your Canada Council portal, under My Account. Required for eligibility, completely private, and only you can fill it out: no third party, including me, can complete or modify it for you.
Request Application Assistance, per grant
Go to Help → Log a Case in the portal. I’ll help you write the request. Canada Council usually responds in 3–5 business days with a case number. That number is what lets me bill them directly for working on your grant.
Optionally, add me as third party
Only if you want me typing directly into the application with you. I can never see your Self-ID or Account Information, and you always submit the application yourself. That part can’t be delegated.
What’s covered
Inside these hour caps, Canada Council pays: not you.
| Service | Covered hours |
|---|---|
| Account setup | up to 2 hrs |
| Microgrants / travel grants | up to 7 hrs |
| Project grants | up to 10 hrs |
| Composite / long-term grants | up to 17 hrs |
| Progress & final reports | up to 5 hrs |
| Grant acceptance paperwork | up to 2 hrs |
Don’t qualify for Canada Council Grant Assistance Funding?
I’m genuinely excited about getting artists funded through the Canada Council programs, and I also offer consulting to help you carve out a granting strategy of your own. If this program isn’t the right fit, I still write grant applications directly, on a sliding scale, for artists and organizations outside it. Email me and give me some insight into your project.
Why me
Here’s the thing: you’re an artist. You should be spending your time on your practice, not wrestling with grant portals at 2am. The Canada Council Self-ID program is accessible, and they want to say yes. The process is designed to be barrier-free, but knowing that doesn’t always make it easier to start. That’s where I come in.
I’m here to partner with you to navigate the mundane parts: the forms, the wording, the deadlines. I’m not here to decode a secret system. The Canada Council wants you to succeed at this and recognizes that people who lack medical privilege may also be in need of help. I’ve been through this enough that I know how it can feel when your brain won’t let you start, or when you can’t sustain the attention it takes to finish.
I’m easy to reach. I stick around until it’s done. And since Canada Council pays me for this work, not you, there’s no reason not to use me. You focus on the art. I’ll focus on getting it funded.
